Simon Dow

Simon received the majority of his early training at the National Theatre Ballet School, being initially trained by Madam Lucie Saronova and then Mr William Carse for Cecchetti Grade examinations. During this period he become the first Australian male dancer to win the Enrico Cecchetti Junior Medal.

He was prepared for the Cecchetti Elementary Examination by Messrs. Carse and Willoughby. Soon after he was accepted for the then 2 year course at the Australian Ballet School during which period he was prepared for both the Cecchetti Intermediate and Advanced examinations by Mr Athol Willoughby - both of which he passed with flying colours.

Simon then went on to appear with the Australian Ballet in 1974 and, after successful seasons with the Stuttgart and Washington companies, returned to Australia in mid 1982 as an Principal artist with The Australian Ballet. During this period he often taught the Melbourne Cecchetti Scholars classes in scheme initiated in Australia by Dame Peggy van Praagh and Mr Athol Willoughby O.A.M.

Simon is currently the Artistic Director of the West Australian Ballet.
