Australian Cecchetti Young Dancer Awards

Cecchetti Ballet Australia is delighted to invite dancers to compete in the Australian Cecchetti Young Dancer Awards.

​

Each entrant is to perform a classical ballet solo of their choice. No repertoire.

 

Three age categories: 

8–10 yrs   |   11-13 yrs   |   14-16 yrs

 

Venue:

Victorian College of the Arts (VCASS), 57 Miles Street, Southbank, Victoria

 

Date:

Sunday, 23rd April 2023

 

Exact times of registration for each age category will be announced closer to the date.

  3. This competition is for Cecchetti students only, for security reasons, you will need to enter a code. 
    Please check your email. We have already sent all our Active Teachers the code.
     

  4. If you are a teacher, you can register all your students with the same account.

  5. If you are a parent/guardian, you can get the code from your Cecchetti Teacher or from the National Office.

    *The National Office needs to ensure you are a Cecchetti Ballet student, so please email enrico@cecchettiballet.org with the Candidate's name, Cecchetti teacher's name and Annual ID so we can provide the code for you.

Entry Criteria

  • Age cut off taken from the 1st January 2023.

  • Entrant must be a student of a registered Cecchetti teacher with a current Cecchetti teacher ID.
    (You will need your teacher's information on registration)

  • No minimum examination level is required for event eligibility.

Performance Costume

Girls must be in a short tutu, suitable to the age restrictions, and ballet flats (canvas or leather).

                                                                                                    [Pointe shoes optional ONLY for 14-16  years].
Boys must be in an appropriate unitard/tights and top/classical shirt.

Solo Duration

Getting Ready

At the time of registration, you will be asked:

  • Cecchetti teacher's name

  • Cecchetti teacher's Annual ID

  • Length of Solo

  • Stage and music settings:
    e.g. Start on/off stage, Finish on/off stage, Starts prompt, Starts opp. prompt, Music first, then dancer enters or Dancer enters, then the music starts.

Adjudicator

Jayne Beddoe

Jayne trained under Rhyll Kennell at the National Theatre Ballet School in Victoria and later with Anne Wooliams at The Victorian College of The Arts. Between 1982 and 1984 she undertook further studies with the Australian Ballet School and won the Lucy Saranova and Dame Peggy van Praagh awards.  During this time, Jayne toured with the Dancers Company to regional areas.  

 

Jayne joined The Australian Ballet Company in 1985 and over the following 9 years was promoted to Corphee, Soloist and leading Soloist.  In 1989 she won the Big Brother Scholarship and travelled to Europe, and the USA.

​

Since retiring from dancing in 1993 Jayne has been involved with the Cecchetti Society, teaching, adjudicating and performing guest roles with The Australian Ballet. Jayne currently coaches and teaches at Glen Iris School of Dance .
